Harpers Ferry, West Virginia

We just enjoyed a week long vacation at my parent's home in Virgina.  As always, we had a great time...lots of swimming, shopping, time with family, and sightseeing.  Instead of going into Washington D.C. on this visit (because of a couple of rallies) we opted for the small historic town of Harpers Ferry, West VA, which is now called Harpers Ferry National Historic Park.  This brought back some neat memories for Joel and I, as we honeymooned in West VA and spent a day in Harpers Ferry then, over 10 years ago!  There is so much history and beauty in this little place...

Harpers Ferry sits on the peninsula where the Potomac & Shenandoah Rivers meet.

Jefferson's Rock

The view from Jefferson Rock.

Harpers Ferry used to have service from the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad.  Today, Amtrack and freight trains pass through daily.  We saw one up close...very loud, but neat!!!

St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church- old, beautiful, and holds mass every Sunday.
The original church was the only structure in Harpers Ferry that was left untouched during the Civil War because the Priest flew the British flag (??), deciding not to take a side.

(I will post more on this adorable girl, Holland, later. :-))

My brother and his daughter...love this picture Pete!

We had a great day exploring Harpers Ferry, but it was hot, so at the end we were all ready to go home.
