so, for a few weeks now, we've been patiently waiting, quietly watching, and eagerly anticipating the arrival of some baby birds. a momma & daddy bird built a nest in our front door wreath and we have a perfect view from our staircase landing.
a view from the inside...
standing on a chair outside...
there were 6 eggs total. 5 blue and white speckled eggs and 1, larger, brown and white speckled egg.
hmmm...
the brown egg hatched first! wow... amazing!
the bird parents are easily spooked and fly away as soon as they see us. unfortunately, when the momma bird flew out of the nest, she knocked out the baby. it fell to the porch.
joel rescued it, by picking it up with paper and depositing it back in its nest.
the baby was still alive, but did not live much longer and died. Izzy and I both felt like crying... so sad.
one of the bird parents must have taken the dead baby bird out, because it is no longer in the nest. we have also lost another egg that fell out of the nest. we are now still patiently waiting, and hoping, that the remaining 4 eggs hatch soon.
i'll let you know.

A cowbird perhaps? The robin probably pushed it out! Sad...but teaches about life/death, eh?
That's so sad!
I would have cried for sure! :(
Love the new look of your blog, hope you have been great.. have you found a new home church yet?
Have a great weekend!
Ohhh, that IS sad. The animal world is so fascinating, and does teach many life lessons, doesn't it?
Love, Mom
