DIY - Canvas Art.

I've had a blank canvas sitting in my storage closet for a few months now.  I bought it when I was feeling crafty and wanted to paint something, but never did, until recently.  I really love the chevron / zig zag pattern.  So, using a ruler, pencil, and some painters tape I decided to make that design on the 20 x 24" canvas.

First, using the ruler, I measured each zig zag 2" apart from each other and 1" wide.  I lightly drew each one with a pencil.

Then I covered the zig zags with painter's tape.

Make sure you press the tape down firmly so the paint doesn't run under it.

Next I spray painted the canvas yellow, let it dry, and removed the tape.

I left it like this for a day because I liked it and was debating about whether or not to do anything else.  But I didn't want it to look Charlie Brown-ish.  So, I used the painter's tape again to tape in the white zig zags and painted those gray.  I removed the tape immediately because I liked the way it looked- gray splattered out just a bit.

I left it like this another couple of days because, again, I kinda liked it.  But, in the end I added a Monogram and couple other touches.  I hand drew the D in pencil using the font 'MachineScript' as my guide.  I put some painter's tape under the "D" so that it would be straight.

I also added the year my husband and I got married.

The final touch was writing our last name in a white Chalk Ink pen (found at Michael's).

What do you think?  It took a little bit of time, but was totally worth it!
