I have BIG plans for my kids this summer. I hope to keep some sort of consistency/ schedule while we are on summer vacation. Growing up, my siblings and I had to come up with a 3 hour daily "constructive schedule," if not working (weekends excluded!). This "schedule" always including reading and playing basketball. As we grew older, I remember also adding lifting weights and practice SAT tests. I don't remember what else filled this three hour block, but remember that I didn't exactly enjoy having to do this, but as a parent, I realize its importance and value. So, this summer, I hope to do the following things, weekly, with my kids:
*art projects*
*reading program at library*
*fun science experiments/ some writing/ math workbooks*
*memorizing scripture and reading Bible stories*
Of course, we will have other fun things to do too...like our weekly playgroup in the park, swimming lessons, playing with friends, visiting the zoo, seeing cousins, taking a trip to Grandma and Grandpa's, etc. We just finished a week of VBS and Basketball Camp too. Very fun, but busy week!!!
Today, Izzy and I did our first art project. Eli was not interested and played outside instead. I found this art idea from one of my favorite blogs here, who got the idea from this blog here, another blog I have recently enjoyed looking at for art ideas. Check them out!!!
This project is called "Georgia O'Keefe Flowers." Get your paint brushes and watercolor paints ready!
Step 1: Draw a flower in pencil, making sure that the petals touch all four sides of your paper.
Step 2: Outline your flower with a sharpie marker.
Step 3: Paint your flower and background with watercolors.
Ta-da!!! Isn't the outcome cool?! This is Izzy's beautiful painting which is now in a frame hanging in the living room. I love it!!!
I LOVE art projects!!!
Do you have any cool art projects to share???

I LOVE Izzy's flower!!! The color is so vibrant, yet soft. I cannot wait to see it framed! What a fabulous creative idea/project...I would love to have one for our home:-)Izzy, you are a wonderful artist! Hugs and kisses, Mom
wasn't it SIX hours of constructive activities when we were young? thats what i tell everyone anyway. ;) hehe.
i like izzy's flower. looks like she'll be an art-tiste just like her mama. here's another couple "crafts" for the kids... painting rocks and a dream board. ya know, where you make a collage on poster board of what you want when you grow up... (cat, family, boat, to be a firefighter... that kind of thing.) i bet it'd be fun for YOU too. :) love youuuuuu!
