Summer Art Project Number 2

Garden Stakes
After a couple years of asking Joel if we could plant a garden, he finally gave in.  :-)  It was my Mother's Day gift this year.  After seeing this cute project on another blog, the kids and I decided to make garden stakes for our garden...check it out.

I bought a couple of packages of wooden rectangles at Hobby Lobby and let the kids paint them with acrylic paints.

Then I wrote the name of the vegetable on the wooden piece with a black sharpie.  We also have cilantro and green onions in our garden, but we didn't haven enough wooden rectangles.  (I just used some of the green onion and cilantro in an enchilada recipe.  It was so fun to just walk outside and get what I needed from the garden!)

Next, we sprayed the wooden rectangles and popsicle sticks with a clear acrylic spray so that the paint and words won't come off.  Then we hot glued the sticks to the wooden pieces.  (I would not recommend this method as some of our stakes have already fallen off.)

Your final step is to place the stakes in your garden...

I really liked how they turned out...very colorful and cheery when I look in the garden.
